- While travelling in the car persuade your child to read the signs.
- When shopping at the supermarket, ask your child to find a particular product on the shelf.
- Provide reading material about topics they are interested in, e.g. sport, cars, fashion, animals, history, etc.
- Ensure they see you reading for pleasure.
- Give your child options for reading for their pleasure - a magazine, a catalogue, online or a book.
- Play board games that require reading whether that is following directions in a game such as Jnr Monopoly or creating words in a game like Jnr Scrabble.
- Read aloud to your child and discuss the book as you go.
- Try to set aside a regular reading time each day.
- Limit technology ‘games’ time to enable reading time.
